TaxAct Review

TaxAct offers a great online tax preparation service for anyone with a simple tax return. While TaxAct doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of larger tax companies, it makes up for it in price and simplicity.

TaxAct: Overall

TaxAct is perfect for those who want an easy, low-cost online tax service. TaxAct provides the cheapest tax service with an easy-to-use interface, although it does not offer personalized assistance when it comes to your tax preparation.

TaxAct: Price

TaxAct offers the cheapest online tax preparation. You can file both your federal and state taxes for free, as long as you don’t have any deductions to claim. If you do have deductions, it will only cost $14.99 for your federal return, plus $14.99 for your state return.

Bonus: TaxAct offers free filing for those on active duty and veterans on all of its products.

TaxAct: Options

Filing: TaxAct offers the ability to file your taxes on online, from your mobile phone or tablet, as well as from downloaded software. It does not, however, have physical branches or personal tax experts to help you with your filing.

Refund: TaxAct allows you to receive your refund via direct deposit, check or prepaid credit card.

TaxAct: Tax Help

Preparation: This is the one major downside of TaxAct; it doesn’t offer a lot of personalized help when it comes to preparing your tax return. While major online tax companies like TurboTax offer tax experts to help you prepare your return, TaxAct only offers an online system to help. It does offer phone help, but at a price.

Audit: TaxAct does offer audit help, although it will cost you $40 and must be purchased with your original tax filing.
